Design and Implementation (2015 – 2017)
In Gilard Villa project, to design a villa with Iranian architecture yet modern and creating the sense of home as the main living place was the main idea of designing. To satisfy this aim, formation of the main volume, inspired by old houses in Damavand, has been designed with metal gable roofs and by respecting the principle of hierarchy of common and private spaces. Creating open and semi-open and porch for summer life was one of the main objectives. To serve such purpose, a two-story porch with wooden rails and lattices was designed alongside the main volume in combination with a water pond and void and every attempt was made to make maximum use of the beautiful sceneries in the north and south of the region and natural light and wind flow. Accordingly, large windows were designed in north and south fronts of the building. To avoid direct sunlight in the summer and extreme cold of winter, a metal cover was put on volumes by observing climate standards and using necessary insulators and the building was designed in color contrast with the surrounding nature.
The main materials used in the volume are wood and stone. The area of site is 1670 sq. m. which was designed with an area of 618 sq. m. (400 sq. m. residential space) in two floors. The ground floor with an area of 200 sq. m. includes common spaces of living room, dining room, the main kitchen, guest room and tea room (a space for sitting and talking) and the 2nd floor measuring 200 sq. m. includes 4 bed rooms (one for parents and 3 for children), living space, kitchen, laundry and bathroom. The yard in this project has been designed as green levels along the porch and semi-open spaces considering the slope of the land.
There is a mesh wall, combination of metal (structure) and wood (filling material), on west side of the porch to serve as a semi-open cover for prevention of west side sunlight while emphasizing the porch volume and creating a sense of lightness. The tea room space (the space for sitting and talking) is one of the outstanding features of this villa. This space is located in the space adjacent to the yard, with fountain under the void and dining room and sitting room, considering the lifestyle of this family who respect the family solidarity and conversation between the family members and gathering together as one of the pillars of the life. Mirror works and view to water have been used in this space for emphasis on its idea. In other words, to create a feeling replete with gentle flow of life, water and mirror have been combined with each other.
